Background to Renewing 2015 MDG goals
Thirteen years ago the entire United Nations met and set up eight goals, the eight Millennium Development Goals. The due point of these goals are supposed to be in 2015. As this is being written the date is April 5th, there are only 1,000 more days until the deadline and it seems already impossible to be able to end some of their goals in such short time.
The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – form a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions. They have galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world’s poorest.
