Nuclear Non-Proliferation background
August 9th, 1945 was the day that the Americans dropped the first nuclear weapons known to man on Hiroshima. Since then the race for nuclear weapons begun. After the assault the USSR(Russia) and the USA were in what is now known as the cold war. During this war the aim was to construct more nuclear weapons than the other country. At the end the USA and the USSR agreed that they must disable some of their weapons. In the outcome of all of this there are 17,300 known nuclear weapons in the world kept track by the IAEA.
